Communication Training at Church Headquarters

Much to our surprise, we were asked to attend a communication training in Salt Lake City in February, prior to the start of our mission.  Elder and Sister Parry, Communication Missionary Coordinators, planned a great 3 day training that included presentations from various leaders in the church communication department.  We learned about posting news stories in the Church Newsroom, how to write a good story,  government relations, hosting VIP's, various Church Channels,  the Church Communication Network, coordinating with General Counsel, and so much more!  We were there with 2 other couples; The Fords who will be Area Communication Specialists in Nairobi, Kenya, and the Seamans who will be Communication missionaries in London, England.

Side by Side in Every Season

This week was especially meaningful as we celebrated our 37th anniversary on Tuesday with a trip to the temple followed by dinner. Thirty-seven wonderful years with my very best friend! Even after all this time, I’m still learning new things about him and find myself loving him more each day. This mission has given us such a special opportunity to be together with a shared purpose. He is a devoted husband, a loyal friend, a wonderful dad, and an incredible grandpa—and I feel so grateful that I get to spend eternity with him. On Tuesday, we also went to the airport to welcome a new senior couple, the Laynes, who will be serving here as military relations missionaries. While we were there, we had the privilege of witnessing the arrival of five WWII veterans on the same flight. They had been stationed in Guam during the battle of Iwo Jima and had returned to be honored. And Then…Home

 This week was full of more lasts and goodbyes. We had our last service at the House of Mercy. We have thoroughly enjoyed serving alongside our friends of other faiths and will really miss that weekly assignment. They shared such kind words and thoughtful gifts with us as we said goodbye.  We also had our final dinner with all the American senior couples serving in Mongolia. What great friends we have made as we have served alongside other couples throughout our mission. We are so grateful for the friendships we have made and wish them all the best as they continue to serve! Next was a virtual goodbye gathering with our communications teams from Japan and Korea. Once again, we have been blessed to work with such wonderful people and feel fortunate to call them friends. From Mongolia to Home: The Final Chapter

It is with very mixed emotions that I write this last blog post! I have truly loved sharing the amazing experiences of our mission with all of you. There have been so many adventures, unexpected turns, wonderful people, new places, and memories that I know we will treasure forever. Somehow, it feels impossible that it is already time to write the final chapter! This final week has been a mixture of tender goodbyes and the best, most-awaited hellos! First, the last few days in Mongolia… Our last official event of the mission was the International Day of Peace. We had the opportunity to come together with leaders from different religious groups to ring the Peace Bell and pray for peace throughout the world. As we stood there surrounded by people of different faiths, all united in that simple hope for peace, it felt like such a fitting way to end our service to the Lord.
