ESL TRAINING AT THE MTC

 March 24-27th we flew to Provo for some ESL training.  In order to get a visa into Mongolia, we are going as volunteer English Teachers.  To satisfy requirements, we have to be certified as English teachers.  This happens with a 4 day training at the English Language Center at BYU.  They will be on break during our regular MTC stay at the end of April, so we went early for the training.  Since we are an anomaly. nobody knew what we were supposed to do.  We arrived at the MTC at 10:00 Sunday evening and all we know was we had to be somewhere at 8:00 Monday morning.  Somehow, it all worked out!  We joined five young sisters and one Elder as we observed, taught, and learned about learning English as a second language.  As native English speakers, we take so much for granted.  It was interesting to learn more about language acquisition.  It was also fun to team teach with my companion, my best friend, my soulmate!  This adventure together is going to be amazing! 



Devin and Sarah came and took us to dinner for our 36th anniversary!  
We walked to Panda for lunch one day and got this most appropriate fortune!

Even though we aren't officially missionaries yet, they gave us our badges.  Kind of cool!

It's hard to believe week two in Mongolia has already come and gone!  Honestly, we were just marveling at the fact that just three weeks ago we were still in Utah, frantically checking our passports and wondering if someone would be there to pick us up at the airport in Tokyo!  That feels like an entire past life now--yet somehow, the days here are flying by faster than a Mongolian wind gust in May!  We're settling in quite nicely and even starting to feel at home.  Our biggest discovery this week? Eighteen Months and a Thousand Goodbyes

The day has finally arrived!  After spending the weekend with Devin and Sarah, we enter the Missionary Training Center in Provo, UT in the morning.  We will spend a week there before flying to Tokyo for more training for a week and then on to Mongolia!  We don't have official travel plans yet as we are still waiting for our Visas, but the people in the know feel they should arrive this week and we should be ready to roll!  Goodbyes are hard!  We are so grateful for modern technology and the ability this will give us to Facetime, talk, and text with our family and friends. Mission Bound: Our Next Chapter Begins

 We have completed our week of training in the Missionary Training Center in Provo, Utah.  It was a great week spent with other senior missionaries serving in places such as Laos, Pakistan, Paris, South Africa and many other places, each with varying assignments and sacrifices, but all wanting to serve the Lord.  It was inspiring and uplifting!   We weren’t sure when we’d be able to leave for Mongolia, as our visas still hadn’t arrived. It was a week full of anticipation and uncertainty—but on Thursday afternoon, we finally got the call we’d been waiting for: our visas were here. The Church travel department sprang into action, and before we knew it, we had tickets booked. We’ll be flying out to Tokyo tomorrow (Sunday) morning at 8:00 and landing Monday afternoon at 2:00 local time (11:00 p.m. back home).
