Google Translate Strikes Again!
Surprises, Service, and Tender Moments
For the past several weeks, our church and office building has been a bit of a construction zone as crews replaced the entire heating system. As you can see in the pictures, we haven’t been able to work in our office off and on for a few weeks now. Somedays we were told not to come in and other days we found out when we got there!
After witnessing this noise and dust for several weeks, we thought it was funny that just this week, as the work is coming to an end, ATTENTION signs showed up on the front door and in the elevator! Naturally, our curiosity got the best of us, so we pulled out our trusty friend, Google Translate. What we got were two completely different translations—each hilarious and perfectly fitting in its own special way. We love Google Translate!
This week also took us to a special contract signing where Deseret International Charities donated funds to a local organization supporting a drug prevention program. I’m always touched by the many different ways member donations are used through DIC to bless those who are less fortunate.
Around the city, we’ve noticed workers improving sidewalks and walkways—small but meaningful changes that make life better for everyone. Across the street from the homeless shelter where we serve each Thursday, we watched one such project progress over several weeks. Finally, this week, it was finished! There’s now a new walkway where there once was none. We did find ourselves wondering, though, if this new “ramp” would meet ADA standards back in the U.S.!
As our church has mourned both the passing of our beloved prophet and the heartbreaking tragedy at one of our meetinghouses in Michigan, we’ve also witnessed the dedication and compassion of the communication team at Church Headquarters in Salt Lake. We joined daily meetings to share updates and help determine how information could be communicated with both accuracy and sensitivity. The team worked tirelessly to ensure that every message was shared with love and care, and it was truly an honor to witness their devotion firsthand.
